Dominican President Danilo Medina delivered the Dominican National Flag to the Leones del Escogido, the team to represent the country in the Caribbean Baseball Series.
The Caribbean classic, where also Cuba the current champion, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and Mexico will participate, will be hosted in the D.R. from February 1st to the 7th in the Estadio Quisqueya Juan Marichal in Santo Domingo. The National Flag was received by manager Luis Rojas, who attended the ceremony with directives and players of the scarlet-colored team.
The Chairman of the Escogido Baseball Team, Felipe Vicini, affirmed that “now we are all Dominicans; welcome all fans of the Aguilas Cibaeñas, Licey, Estrellas, Gigantes and Toros”. He thanked their manager, Luis Rojas, the ball players and their GM, Moisés Alou, as well as Eduardo Najri and José Miguel Bonetti for their commitment to the team.
Upon delivering the National Flag, the President assured “I have no doubt the team will champion, that the flag will wave proudly. It is a great pleasure to deliver the National Flag to the Escogido, now the National Team”, he stated.
The center fielder Lew Ford’s participation was also announced, after the Caribbean Baseball Confederacy granted proper clearance.
The ceremony was also addressed by the Chairman of the Dominican Baseball League (LIDOM), Dr. Leonardo Matos Berrido, who said that “the championship that just ended has been one of the most exciting, won by the Escogido versus Licey”.
